Working with startups and established organizations

I both experienced elaborate design processes from established teams, and early stage "build fast break things" mentalities.

/Work methodology

The design thinking process

Empathise

In the early stages of the design discovery phase I like to do very grounded user research, interviews and market analysis. This allows me to gather insights that define a concrete problem/opportunity statement to work towards.

Define

With the new knowledge it is now possible to create very concrete problem statements and lay out user personas that can be used throughout the design process to support reasoning and decision making.

Ideate

From here, I ideate by involving key stakeholders into creative sessions that bring insights & ideas that affect the further design decisions. With the new gathered insights I can proceed in an exploratory design phase

Prototype

the most interesting ideas are explored in form of low & high fidelity designs that often turn into clickable prototypes.

Test/Iterate

With the designs at hand it's now possible to do user tests with the appropriate users that reflect the defined user persona. If any crucial new findings are made at this stage, it is is still a good time to fix and iterate before handing the designs over to development.

Refine designs & Support development

From here, I proceed with making pixel perfect designs that reflect the defined user journey & flow diagram. I update and respect component libraries and defined styles to ensure quicker development cycles. From here, it's about handing over the designs, refining and supporting the dev team, making sure that the team is aligned while testing and finding potential bugs.
